In at least one DSH facility patients no longer receive annual or quarterly physical examinations unless they themselves remember to ask/beg for them. Many of these patients have schizophrenia, are low functioning with serious mental illness, and lack situational awareness;
Quarterly labs are not ordered as routinely required, and lab results are often not discussed with patients in at least one facility;
When a doctor is sick or goes on vacation, covering doctors in most cases will only provide patients with emergency care which has resulted in great pain/suffering to some;
During the COVID-19 pandemic, only emergency dental care is being provided to patients, and across the DSH landscape patients teeth are rotting in their mouth and this is a catastrophic situation that nobody is considering. These patients when the pandemic started already had cavities that needed to be filled and if care is not provided soon, these patients will ultimately need extractions.
